Ex-UH golfer tied for 20th at Q-school

Reigning Hawai'i State Open champion Jarett Hamamoto, from Hilo, shot a 3-under-par 69 in the second round of the PGA Tour First Stage Qualifying yesterday. The event ends tomorrow at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif.
Hamamoto, a former University of Hawai'i golfer, shares 20th with a 3-under 141 total. The leaders are at 133. Punahou graduate Jim Seki, who won the Pac-10 championship when he played for Stanford, is tied for 29th at 74-143.
The top 27 and ties tomorrow advance to the second stage.
In Beaumont, Calif., Hono-lulu's Stan Souza and Kailua, Kona's Mark Morrison share 36th going into today's final round of the Champions Tour Q-school regional qualifying.
Souza and Morrison both shot 74 in yesterday's third round and are at 229. The leader is Jimmy Hill, at 70-211. Kapolei's Faitala Sofa (80-243) is 54th.
The top 22 after today's final round at PGA Southern California Golf Club advance to the National Finals, Nov. 15 to 18 in Florida.
SENIOR AMATEUR POSTPONED BY RAIN
The Hawai'i State Senior Amateur Championship golf tournament scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed because of rain and wet course conditions at the Kane'ohe Klipper, the Hawai'i State Golf Association announced yesterday. The association said the tournament would be rescheduled at a date to be determined.

UH MEN SWEEP PAST LONG BEACH STATE
Lauri Hakala had 16 kills and Jim Clar added 10 as the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team swept Long Beach State, 30-28, 34-32, 30-23, last night in an exhibition match at the Stan Sheriff Center. The teams will play again today with the preliminary match beginning at 4 p.m., and the featured match at 7.

SENSLEY, TABUSE TAKEN IN NBADL DRAFT
Former University of Hawai'i star Julian Sensley was drafted by the Colorado 14ers yesterday in the fourth round of the NBA Developmental League draft.
Sensley, who spent time with the Golden State Warriors' summer league team and the German national team this summer, was the 46th player chosen overall.
Yuta Tabuse, a former standout at Brigham Young-Hawai'i, was picked by the Bakersfield Jam in the third round with the 35th overall pick.
TENNIS
JOBE, ODA IN FINAL OF WAIKOLOA WILD CARD
Hawai'i's Ikaika Jobe and Malino Oda reached today's final of the Waikoloa Futures Wild Card Tournament. That guarantees one will advance to the main draw of the USTA Pro Circuit event next week at Hilton Waikoloa's Kohala Tennis Garden.
Jobe beat Alex Menichini, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), in one of yesterday's semifinals.
Jobe, 24, won the 1999 and 2001 state high school championships when he was at Punahou. Oda, a former UH player and the 1997 and '98 state champion for Lahainaluna, defeated Benjamin Lankenau, 6-0, 6-4.
Today's final begins at 9 a.m.
