ROTC cadets fall out from heat exhaustion

Advertiser Staff

A dozen teenage ROTC cadets collapsed today during the Veterans Day parade in Wai'anae and were taken to three area hospitals, Honolulu Fire Department officials reported. Officials blamed the situation on heat exhaustion, and a decision was made to cancel the remainder of the event, which was scheduled to conclude with a drill team exercise.

Prior to the parade, the cadets had marched from the Wai'anae Boat Harbor to the Wai'anae Mall

Emergency crews set up a triage unit to deal with the situation. Twelve student cadets who needed additional medical attention were taken to Pali Momi Medical Center, St. Francis West Medical Center and the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, officials said.
