Pedestrian struck last night in Wahiawa dies

Advertiser Staff

A 60-year-old woman struck by a car while crossing California Avenue in Wahiawa last night has died, police said this morning.

The woman, originally reported in critical condition, died at The Queen's Medical Center early this morning, said police Sgt. Daniel Kaholokula.

She was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk just before 5 p.m. yesterday when she was hit by 2003 Ford Focus driven by a 49-year-old woman, who told police she could not stop the car in time when the pedestrian appeared in the street on her right side.

The pedestrian was struck by the front of the car, tossed onto the roof and fell to the road, Kaholokula said.

The victim's identity has not been released.
