Happy Arbor Day! Make like a tree to get your free plant

Early birds will get the free trees or shrubs (one per family) at the annual Arbor Day giveaways today.

On O'ahu, head for:

  • The Hawaiian Electric Co.'s Kahe power plant, 92-200 Farrington Highway

  • The Urban Garden Center in Pearl City, 955 Kamehameha Highway

  • HECO's Honolulu facility, 820 Ward Ave.

  • HECO's Ko'olau base yard, 1387 Ulupi'i St., Kailua

  • Wahiawa Botanical Garden, 1396 California Ave.

  • Waimea Valley Audubon Center, 59-864 Kamehameha Highway

    The O'ahu sites begin the giveaway at 7 a.m., with the exception of Waimea Valley Audubon Center, which begins at 9 a.m.

    On the Neighbor Islands:

  • Maui: Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, 150 Kanaloa Ave., Kahului, 9 a.m.

  • Kaua'i: Lihu'e Macy's store's parking lot, 8 a.m.

  • Big Island: Hawaiian Electric Light Co.'s main office in Hilo, 1200 Kilauea Ave., 10 a.m; and the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, 82-6188 Mamalahoa Highway in Captain Cook, 8:30 a.m.
