The first annual Starbucks Maui 'Ukulele Festival is from 2 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's A&B Amphitheater.

A host of Island uke strummers, including Jake Shimabukuro, will appear.

Others on the program: Herb "Ohta-san" Ohta with guitarist Nando Suan, Richard Ho'opi'i, Kelly Boy DeLima and daughter Kalena, Manoa DNA, the Hula Honeys and Da 'Ukulele Boys.

Among the participating 'ukulele companies: Pono 'Ukulele, GString 'Ukulele, Kala 'Ukulele and Mele 'Ukulele.

In conjunction with the festival, free 'ukulele workshops, conducted by Roy and Kathy Sakuma of Roy Sakuma 'Ukulele Studios, are planned from 10 to 11 a.m. today at McCoy Studio Theatre. Workshops are open to children and adults, and are geared to beginning and intermediate strummers.

Participants should bring their own instruments, along with pencil and paper, and be able to hold C, F and G7. A Kala concert uke will be given away at the end of the session.
