Warriors borrow from offense to help ailing D-line

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Running back Siave Seti and offensive lineman Larry Sauafea and Adrian Thomas have changed positions to help build depth on the depleted University of Hawaii defensive line.

Seti and Sauafea started their UH careers on the defensive line before moving to offense.

Seti, who was a nose tackle, will be tried at defensive end.

UH has lost five defensive ends to injuries in the past two games.

Sauafea came over on the recommendation of nose tackle Michael Lafaele, who also started his career as an offensive lineman.

Sauafea is practing at defensive end.

Thomas joined UH from Australia, where he was a standout rugby player. He was expected to redshirt this year, but head coach June Jones said, "If he can help us, he'll play (this year)."

Defensive line coach Jeff Reinebold said, "It was open casting call today."

Defensive end Fale Laeli, who missed six games because of a knee injury, resumed practice Monday.

The Warriors (7-2), winners of six in a row, play host to Louisiana Tech on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
