Leonard Peters' MRI shows no tear in knee

University of Hawai'i free safety Leonard Peters said he hopes to play Saturday's football game against Louisiana Tech.

Peters, who is one of three team captains, today underwent an MRI to determine the extent of an injury to his right knee. Preliminary reading of the MRI did not show a tear.

He said it was recommended he undergo the detection procedure after feeling "tightness" and discomfort in his right knee.

Peters missed all but one game of the 2005 season because of a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

"Same leg," Peters said of this injury. "It's not as bad as the last time. The last time I couldn't even walk. (This time) they told me to get an MRI to be sure."

Peters said he is going "to rest for a couple of days and we'll see."

But he said: "If they leave it up to me, I'll play. I can play. ... I know (the injury is) something, but I don't know what it is."

Strong safety Jake Patek said he has been told he will move to free safety in Peters' absence.

"Hopefully he'll be all right and will come back strong and, in Jesus' name, he's not hurt," Patek said.
