  • "COOL TECH TOOLS FOR HOME AND OFFICE" — including such things as YouTube, Google, Skype Phone, Blackberry and wireless networking and Microsoft's yet-to-be-released VISTA operating system — will be reviewed at a Nov. 16 meeting of the Hawai'i Society of Corporate Planners. Planned is a panel discussion with "tech gurus" Mike Meyer, Ho'ala Greevy and Jim Takatsuka, moderated by attorney Jay Fidell, host of Hawai'i Public Radio's "Think Tech Hawai'i" program. Former Silicon Valley entrepreneur Greevy is president of Hawaii-based Pau Spam, an e-mail filtering system that scans incoming e-mail for spam, viruses and phishing attacks; Meyer is president of CTA, a high technology consulting firm based in Honolulu, and a founder of Hitech Quest, a Honolulu-based non-profit organization dedicated to furthering technology education for Hawai'i youth.   • Are we ready for the next disaster? Lessons learned from Sept. 11 will be discussed at a presentation Wednesday sponsored by the International Association of Business Communicators. The discussion, "9/11: A First-hand Communications Account and Lessons Learned from Ground Zero," will be 11 a.m. (registration)-1 p.m. at The Plaza Club in Pioneer Plaza. Speaking will be Jasmin Rodriguez, currently Castle Medical Center's director of communications and marketing and who, on Sept. 11, oversaw communications for St. Vincent Manhattan Medical Center, the closest trauma center to the World Trade Center. She will share issues during that disaster, with lessons learned and application for the Oct. 15 earthquakes that wiped out power and communications in Hawai'i.
