Kamehameha wins girls DI state volleyball title

Kamehameha's girls embrace after beating Punahou to win the girls Division I state volleyball title before about 5,000 at Stan Sheriff Center.

Kanani Herring had 20 kills to lead defending state champion Kamehameha to a 35-37, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Punahou in the girls state volleyball Division I title Thursday.

The championship was played before about 5,000 fans at Stan Sheriff Center.

Herring had eight of her kills in the decisive third game, in which the Warriors (20-1) took leads of 5-1, 14-10 and 18-11. The Buffanblu, who eventually got as close as 20-18, ended their season at 19-4.

Bekah Torres added 12 kills for Kamehameha.

Larissa Nordyke had 19 kills for Punahou.
