"Evening of Philippine Music" at FilCom Center Sunday

Tenor Noel Espiritu Velasco and mezzo-soprano Gigi Mitchell-Velasco will present "An Evening of Philippine Music and Classics" at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the FilCom Center in Waipahu.

Noel Espiritu Velasco is a Pavarotti International Voice Competition winner and Philippine national treasure. Gigi Mitchell-Velasco is a winner of New York's Liederkranz Wagnerian competition.

The program is dedicated to the Filipino spirit of adventure and travel to foreign lands in search of fortune and livelihood.

The $45 tickets include a dinner reception at 5 p.m. There will be moonlit serenades, opera arias, duets and songs about love and women, farmers' toils and dreams, griefs and torments, and a visit to American music theater. The second half of the program will feature classic folk songs from the Ilokano, Tagalog and Visayas regions, and original compositions.
