Indies continue through Sunday

The Island Independent Film Festival, presented by Cinema Paradise, continues through Sunday at NextDoor, 43 N. Hotel St. in Chinatown. The festival also includes parties after each night's screenings.

Admission to individual screenings is $10; a Cinemaniac All-Access pass is $75 and gives holders priority seating. 953-0002, www.whatiiff.com.

IIFF launched last night with a screening of the controversial film "Death of a President," a faux documentary about the assassination of President Bush.

The schedule:

TODAY

  • Noon: Box office opens

  • 5 p.m.: Happy hour

  • 6 p.m.: "Lady Vengeance." From Korea, Lee Geum-ja is released after serving 13 years for the kidnapping of a boy; now she's bent on revenge.

  • 7 p.m.: "Next: A Primer on Urban Painting." Documentary considers graffiti as an art form.

  • 8 p.m.: Mirrorball, selection of music videos from around the world.

  • 9 p.m.: "Goal Dreams." Documentary about the Palestinian national soccer team as it prepares to qualify for the 2006 World Cup.

  • 10 p.m.:Pacific Standard festival party with DJ Ira and J-Boogie

    SATURDAY

  • Noon: Box office opens

  • 5 p.m.: Happy hour

  • 6 p.m.: "Great Happiness Space: A Tale of an Osaka Love Thief." Documentary looks at Japan's adult entertainment industry.

  • 8 p.m.: Showdown in Chinatown championship. Monthly winners return to compete in a one-week film challenge.

  • 10 p.m.: Eskae and CP present Chinatown Sessions with Low Budget

    SUNDAY

  • Noon: Youth Media workshop

  • 5 p.m.: "Hawaiian Legends" reception

  • 6 p.m.: George Tahara retrospective and festival, including "Boyhood of Kamehameha," "Lani and the Sharkman," "Maui and His Kite," "Waters of Kane."

  • 7 p.m.: Awards ceremony

  • 8 p.m.: Closing film: "Refugee All Stars." Documentary follows six Sierra Leonean musicians who find refuge and hope in creating music.

  • 10 p.m.: Closing party with J-Boogie Dubtronic Science
