Fashionista's Market spotlights hot denim brands

Kailua's Global Village presents fashion show, wine and bread tastings

Fashionista's Market, brainchild of "The Style Sisters"— Emi Hart and Alyssa Fung — presents The Denim Event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and tomorrow at a new venue, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i.

The sample sale will focus on premium denim brands Frankie B., True Religion, Lucky Brand Jeans and other upscale labels at deep discounts. The location allows for more space and larger dressing rooms than previous venues.

GLOBAL VILLAGE SHOW

Global Village, the locally owned mother-daughter treasure trove of fashion and accessories in Kailua, presents The Art of Fashion at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

The red-carpet runway show will feature the fashions of Jodi Salmonson, a graduate of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa fashion design program and former student at Parsons, home of Bravo's "Project Runway." The Kailua resident is unveiling her new collection for KariJane.

The event will also feature wine sampling from HASR Wine Co. and bread tasting from The Great Harvest Bread Co. in Kailua. The first 100 people to make a reservation will receive a gift ($15 value). Reservations: 262-8183, e-mail gvkailua@hotmail.com or stop by the store.

BENEFIT AT YWCA

Shop for new and pre-owned women's business, casual and holiday clothing at bargain prices at the YWCA of O'ahu's year-end sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the Laniakea YWCA lobby, 1040 Richards St.

All proceeds from the sale will be used to support Dress for Success Honolulu, which provides interview attire to economically-challenged women who are seeking jobs. Information: www.ywcaoahu.org.

IOLANI SPORTSWEAR SALE

Iolani sportswear is having a factory sale of men's and women's fashions from previous seasons. Find the store at 1234 Kona St. Drive up the ramp and look for them at the diamondhead end of the parking lot.

FIGHTING EEL FRIDAYS

The headquarters of Fighting Eel, the design duo of Lan Chung and Rona Barrett that's making it big nationwide, will now be open every Friday for a weekly shopping opportunity. Items from past seasons will be on sale at 30 percent off; harder-to-find colors and styles from the current collection will also be available all in one place.

BUTIGROOVE OPENS

Butigroove has opened at 500 Pi'ikoi St. at Kona street, across from Blockbuster. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Butigroove is a musically-driven clothing line that includes T-shirts for guys and tanks and tube tops for gals, as well as accessories. Information: 589-2884.
