Killed in the 5:50 p.m. crash was a 33-year-old Lihue man who was a passenger in a Geo Prizm traveling southbound on Rice Street between the entrance to the Kaua'i Marriott Resort and Beach Club and the Makoi Street junction.

The driver of the Geo Prizm was first taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and later flown to The Queen's Medical Center on O'ahu.
