Former UH player Bown helps USA win

The United States got 23 points each from former University of Hawai'i standout Heather Bown and Tayyiba Haneef to beat Germany in the second round of the women's world volleyball championships today at Osaka, Japan.

The U.S. won 25-27, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11 to finish the Group F second round at 3-4. It will not advance to the semifinals.

Brazil will face Serbia-Montenegro, while Russia takes on Italy, in the semifinals Wednesday at Osaka.
