BeachBoys, Honu win in Hawaii Winter Baseball play

Advertiser Staff

Middle infielders Ian Desmond and Chris Nelson drove in two runs each to lead the Waikiki BeachBoys over the West Oahu CaneFires, 5-2, today in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu.

Meanwhile, Kailua graduate Rodney Choy Foo slugged his fourth home run of the season to help the North Shore Honu beat the Honolulu Sharks, 4-1, today at Les Murakami Stadium.

Both games were scheduled for seven innings because of a shortage in pitching, the league said.

Desmond drove in his runs with a double and single, while Nelson hit a two-run home run for the BeachBoys (17-12).

Choy Foo's home run ties him for the league lead with two other players and gave the Honu (14-14) a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The Sharks (13-17) tied the game in the fourth, only to watch Cory Dunlap break the deadlock in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

All of the teams have tomorrow off.
