Hawai'i stores were being warned to strictly follow set hours, the Nov. 12, 1942, Advertiser reported.

1910: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that the Legislature will be asked to purchase the Kapi'olani Estate to add to 'Ainahau park.

1917: The front page of the Pacific Commercial Advertiser is devoted exclusively to coverage of the death of Queen Lili'uokalani. Photos inside the paper showed the queen from age 15 to her later years.

1947: It is reported that Attorney General Walter Ackerman Jr. will investigate communist activities in Hawai'i, particularly by employees of the territorial government. Gov. Ingram Stainback had said in an Armistice Day speech that communists in the employ of the territory would be dismissed.

1992: Richard Smart, owner of Parker Ranch, dies at the age of 79.

2003: The Navy returns the island of Kaho'olawe to the state.
