Local mixed martial arts group signs Showtime deal

Rumble World Entertainment, a Hilo-based mixed martial arts organization, signed a three-year contract with the Showtime cable network today.RWE will be responsible for setting up live mixed martial arts events for Showtime starting in 2007. The first card is scheduled for Feb. 10.
"MMA is a global phenomenon that is impossible to ignore," said Ken Hershman, senior vice president and general manager of sports and event programming for Showtime. "This will be the perfect complement to our boxing franchise, and we are proud to be the first premium network to embrace it."
