Power restored to some Kane'ohe residents

Advertiser Staff

More than half of the 1,800 Kane'ohe residents who were without power just before 9 p.m. tonight had electricity restored by 10:15 p.m., Hawaiian Electric Co. said.

Spokesman Jose Dizon said the remainder without power should be switched over to other lines by 11 p.m.

Dizon said there was an underground cable problem in Kane'ohe that caused the outage. A crew was dispatched, but a closer examination will be made tomorrow.

In the meantime, customers were switched over to other lines. Dizon said rodents or insects can cause a short by chewing through line insulation, and water infiltration also can cause a short.

The area of the power failure was in the Kahekili Highway, Kea'ahala Road, Ha'iku Road area.
