Kahuku Hospital will close, legislator says

The financially strapped Kahuku Hospital will be closed, according to a statement this afternoon from state Rep. Michael Y. Magaoay.

"The closure of Kahuku Hospital is a sad event for the people of the North Shore, but I believe that the hospital's administrators have done everything possible to maintain quality healthcare and emergency room services for as long as it was financially feasible," Magaoay said.

The Legislature over the years has tried to keep the hospital afloat in an effort to maintain the facility for the community, he said. "However, it is apparent that even greater resources are needed than are available. I respect the board's decision, and I will do everything I can to assist in ensuring that medical services are provided for the community at other facilities," Magaoay said in his statement.
