Hana advances to boys state D2 volleyball title game

In a game where points weren't easy to come by, it was a

pair of Wai'anae miscues that ultimately did in the Seariders in a semifinal match of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Boys Division II State Volleyball Championships Wednesday night at Radford's Jim Alegre Gymnasium.

Bula Hoopai had a match-high 12 kills and Harold Kaiwi added 11 to lead No. 2 Hana (11-0) to a 20-25, 25-16, 25-23 victory past No. 3 Waianae (14-1).

Hana, the Maui Interscholastic League champion, meets No. 1 Maryknoll in the championship final, 6 p.m. Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Division I – Punahou Bracket:

Fifth Place Semifinal: Waiakea def. Lahainaluna, 25-15, 25-16

Semifinal: #1 Punahou def. Kalaheo, 25-10, 25-9

Division I – McKinley Bracket:

Fifth Place Semifinal: KS-Kapalama def. KS-Maui, 25-20, 25-13

Semifinal: #3 KS-Hawaii def. #2 Roosevelt, 25-19, 25-16

Division II – KS-Kapalama Bracket:

Fifth Place Semifinal: Aiea def. Kalani, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23

Semifinal: #1 Maryknoll def. #4 Hilo, 25-19, 25-20

Division II – Radford Bracket:

Fifth Place Semifinal: Mid Pacific def. Waimea, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19

Semifinal: #2 Hana def. #3 Waianae, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23

The tournament concludes today with all matches, Division I and II, at Stan Sheriff Center. The first serve is scheduled to begin with the Division II consolation at 9 a.m. The Division II championship is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the Division I championship to follow at 7:30 p.m. Both championship matches will be televised on OC16.
