Tsunami advisory issued for Hawai'i

A tsunami advisory was issued for the state of Hawai'i as of 1:35 a.m. by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center following a 7.7 earthquake off the coast of Japan.

Based on available data, there is no destructive tsunami threat to Hawai'i, according to the Warning Center, but some coastal areas in Hawai'i could experience small sea level changes and strong or unusual currents lasting up to several hours.

The warning center estimated the time such effects might begin is 7:17 a.m.
