Wie will play in 4th Sony

Advertiser Staff

Apparently, her recent performances against men have not shaken Michelle Wie's outlook.

Wie yesterday officially accepted a sponsor's exemption to play in her fourth Sony Open in Hawai'i, a PGA Tour event in which she has experienced some success. The 2007 Sony Open will be played Jan. 11 to 14 at Waialae Country Club, where Wie is a temporary member this year.

"I'm really excited. The Sony Open has been really awesome to me," said the 17-year-old Punahou senior. "It's awesome to be invited again. Waialae has such a good course."

In her last two tournaments against men, Wie finished last — at the Omega European Masters and 84 Lumber Classic, both in September.

When asked what she's been working on and what she would need to do to make the cut at Sony — she missed by just one shot as a 14-year-old in 2004 — Wie said, "I've been working on everything. I kind of have a short memory. So if I just focus on one thing, everything else starts to fall apart. I've been trying to maximize the limited hours that I have because I have to go to school and stuff. I've been trying to focus on everything and get back into the mindset of a tournament. I'm really excited."

Wie's next tournament is the Casio World Open in Japan next week. It is a stop on the Japan men's tour.

Beyond that, only the Wies know.
