Trade winds will offer brief relief today

The trade winds are back — but only briefly.

A ridge passing north of the state will provide moderate trades through tonight before easing out tomorrow, when winds will turn southerly then sourtheast by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather will be dry around the islands this weekend, the weather service said, with modest showers expect mainly in windward and mountain areas.

Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning before coming mostly cloudy. Scattered showers, with temperatures 74 to 81 and a 50 percent chance of rain highlight the day. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph are also expected.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to 64 to 71 degrees, with 10 to 15 mph winds out of the east and a 70 percent chance of rain.

Tomorrow will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and temperatures ranging from 71 to 81 degrees.
