Advertiser Staff

A third Hawai'i Marine killed in Iraq on Tuesday has been identified as Lance Cpl. Mario D. Gonzalez, 21, of La Puente, Calif.

Gonzalez was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kane'ohe Bay.

Lance Cpl. Michael D. Scholl, 21, of Lincoln, Neb. and Lance Cpl. Timothy W. Brown, 21, of Sacramento, also died Tuesday while conducting combat operations in western Iraq.

Gonzalez, Brown and Scholl are the ninth and 10th and 11th Hawai''i Marines with the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment to be killed in Iraq since late September. Approximately 1,000 Marines with the unit are serving a seven-month tour in the Haditha Dam area northwest of Baghdad.

Multinational Corps-Iraq yesterday said three Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7 — the higher command for Hawai'i Marines — were killed Tuesday.
