Advertiser Staff and News Services

What do you bid? Thousands of bridge players from across the country, including an estimated 400 from Hawai'i, converge here today for the start of the North American Bridge Championships Fall 2006 tournament, which runs through Nov. 26. World-class players Bob Wolf and Bob Hammond will be here, and Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have attended past NABC events, we're told, though there's no sighting of them yet at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Information: www.acbl.org.

PRECOCIOUS TOTS

LOOK WHO KNOWS HOW TO READ

Dr. Bob Titzer, who made headlines in 1998 with his story about teaching his 18-month-old daughter to read, is holding a free early-learning workshop for parents at 11 a.m. today at Thinker Toys (735-5442) in the Kahala Mall. The infant learning expert will teach parents how to respond to their child's visual attention and introduce local families with babies who can read.
