Waianae beats Kealakehe in state D1 football

Advertiser Staff Writer

Quarterback Ben McQuown passed for three touchdowns to lead the fifth-ranked Wai'anae to a 28-14 victory over No. 7 Kealakehe, last night in first-round game of the First Hawaiian Bank State Football Division I Tournament at Raymond Torii Field.

The Seariders (8-4) will play top-ranked Saint Louis at 8 p.m. Friday at Aloha Stdium.

The Big Island Waveriders ended their season at 12-1.

Gabe Tuata, Kealakehe's UH-bound running back, was held to 29 yards on nine carries, but made six receptions for 50 yards.

Kealakehe's was hurt by five turnovers, including three interceptions by Preston Ayala.

McQuown threw TD passes to 23 yards to Noah Halemano-Lyman, 24 yards to Charles Humble and 26 yards to Cranston Newman.

He finished 9 of 14 for 140 yards.
