A 32-year-old Kalihi man was arrested Wednesday after a 56-year-old woman reportedly found him at a pawn shop in Waipahu trying to sell jewelry that was stolen from her.

Police were called to the pawn shop and arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree theft.

MCCULLY

MAN ARRESTED IN GIRLFRIEND ASSAULT

A 42-year-old McCully man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly pulled his girlfriend off the street Tuesday, held her captive overnight and beat her and sexually assaulted her.

The woman told police she got into an argument with the man at their home on Citron Street and asked police to stand by while she gathered some of her things before leaving.

She said she was walking on Kina'u Street near Pi'ikoi Street about 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday when the boyfriend grabbed her and forced her to return to the home on Citron Street.

She said the man held her in a bedroom overnight and sexually assaulted her and attempted to strangle her.

Police said a witness saw the woman being dragged back to the bedroom and called police. They went to the man's home and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping, felony abuse of a family or household member and first-degree sexual assault.

NIU VALLEY

SCHOOL, SEWER ITEMS ON AGENDA

The Niu Valley community will hold a meeting to discuss residents' concerns about the Honolulu Waldorf School's plans to build a high school on the Ulua Street campus and the impasse between the city and King's Cathedral Church over use of its parking at the Niu Valley Shopping Center.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Niu Valley Middle School cafeteria.

A sewer-replacement project was halted last week when talks recently broke down between the city and the church over allowing the city to use a 4,000-square-foot portion of the church's parking lot to stage sewer-repair work. The city will consider condemnation of the amount of land needed if a settlement cannot be reached.

And the community, which has been in opposition to Waldorf's plan for a high school, will discuss its strategy for the public hearing on the school's request for a conditional-use permit form the city that will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Mission Memorial Auditorium, 550 South King St.
