Earthquakes continue near Kuril Islands

An area north-northeast of Japan that was hit by a massive earthquake on Wednesday, resulting in unusual surges and ocean currents in Hawai'i beginning about six hours later, is continuing to shake.

The U.S. Geological Survey Center, which monitors earthquakes around the world, has recorded 50 temblors having a magnitude of 5.0 or greater in the area near the Kuril Islands since the 8.3 quake occurred at 1:14 a.m. Hawai'i time.

The most recent quake near the Kuril Islands came at about 11 p.m. yesterday Hawai'i time. It was assigned a magnitude of 5.0.
