BYUH, HPU win tourney openers

Eric Boyce scored 16 points, and Corey Nielson and Wu Tai-hao each added 14, leading Brigham Young-Hawai'i to an 83-75 victory over Central Washington last night in the Seasider DII Tournament at Cannon Activities Center.

Paul Peterson contributed 10 for BYUH (2-0). Lance Den Boer led Central Washington (0-1) with 25 points.

In yesterday's first game, Hawai'i Pacific opened its season with a 79-75 victory over Cal State Stanislaus.

Kamron Alborz scored 15 points and Ryan Walker had 11 to lead the Sea Warriors, who trailed 40-38 at intermission.

Today's games have Cal State Stanislaus playing Central Washington at 4 p.m., with Oakland City (Ind.) taking on BYUH at 8.

HPU's next game is 4:30 p.m. Monday against Central Washington at Cannon.

WOMEN

CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD 106, HAWAI'I PACIFIC 44

Rhondi Naff and Jessi Loring each scored 16 points, and three teammates also scored in double figures as the Roadrunners (1-0) routed the Sea Warriors (0-2) at Bakersfield, Calif.
