Waikiki, West Oahu win in Hawaii Winter Baseball

Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Nate Schierholtz drove in all the runs to help Waikiki beat Honolulu, 2-0, today in Hawaii Winter Baseball before 914 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Rick Vanden Hurk (2-2) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out eight in five innings. Alex Hinshaw added two scoreless innings, Hirotaka Egusa pitched a perfect eighth with two strikeouts, and Andrew Johnston retired the side in order in the ninth for his fifth save for the BeachBoys (19-15).

Schierholtz had RBI singles in the first and third innings, both scoring Dexter Fowler, against Honolulu starter Kanehisa Arime (4-3).

Yoshiyuki Kamei had two hits for the Sharks (15-20).

Meanwhile, at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu, Johnny Whittleman hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to lift West Oahu over North Shore, 11-5, The CaneFires (17-17) pulled within a half-game of the Honu (17-16) with two regular season games left.

Toyoji Matsumura (3-1) went 3 1/3 innings for the CaneFires, allowing two runs, one earned, with three strikeouts. Keisuke Hayashi (1-2) was tagged for nine runs in 2 1/3 innings for the Honu.
