Purdue rolls by Indiana, 28-19

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Curtis Painter passed for 260 yards and a touchdown and overcame four interceptions to lead Purdue to a 28-19 win over Indiana yesterday in the Old Oaken Bucket game.

Purdue's victory eliminated Indiana from bowl contention.

Greg Orton caught six passes for 112 yards, and Dorien Bryant caught five passes for 74 yards and ran for a score for Purdue (8-4, 5-3 Big Ten). The Boilermakers finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference.

Kellen Lewis passed for 290 yards and a touchdown and ran for 103 and a score, and James Hardy caught nine passes for 151 yards and a touchdown for Indiana (5-7, 3-5). The Hoosiers gained 505 yards, but scored just two touchdowns.

Purdue will play at Aloha Stadium on Saturday.

OREGON STATE 30, STANFORD 7

STANFORD, Calif. — Matt Moore threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a 1-yard score to make the Beavers (7-4, 5-3 Pac-10) bowl eligible, spoiling the Cardinal's (1-10, 1-7) final shot at winning a game in its fancy renovated stadium.

Yvenson Bernard carried 36 times for 168 yards — 20 of those rushes for 99 yards in the first half alone — to go over the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

Oregon State will play at Aloha Stadium on Dec. 2.

EASTERN ILLINOIS 28, JACKSONVILLE STATE 24

CHARLESTON, Ill. — Norris Smith's 6-yard touchdown run with 4:48 left capped a comeback from a 10-point second-half deficit as the Panthers (8-4, 7-1 Ohio Valley Conference) beat the Gamecocks (6-5, 5-3) to clinch a share of the league title.

Eastern Illinois shares the title with Tennesse-Martin, which beat Murray State, 42-14, to win the OVC's automatic bid to the Division I-AA playoffs. Eastern is expected to receive an at-large bid to the playoffs.

Hawai'i beat Eastern Illinois, 44-9, on Sept. 30.

WYOMING 34, UNLV 26

LAS VEGAS — Quarterback Karsten Sween threw for 179 yards and a touchdown to lead the Cowboys (6-6, 5-3) over the Rebels (1-10, 0-7), making the Cowboys bowl eligible in their regular-season finale.

Hawai'i beat UNLV, 42-13, on Sept. 16.

NO. 15 AUBURN 22, ALABAMA 15

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Brandon Cox threw a 22-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter as the Tigers (10-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) beat the Crimson Tide (6-6, 2-6).

Auburn's David Irons picked off a John Parker Wilson pass with 1:17 left to preserve the Tigers' victory.

Alabama beat Hawai'i, 25-17, on Sept. 2.

NO. 13 BOISE STATE 49, UTAH ST. 10

BOISE, Idaho — Jared Zabransky threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns, and Brett Denton ran for 125 yards and two scores as the Broncos (11-0, 7-0 WAC) beat the Aggies (1-10, 1-6) to capture at least a share of the league title.

The Broncos scored on their first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter and finished the first half ahead 28-3.

Boise State beat Hawai'i, 41-34, on Sept. 23. UH beat Utah State, 63-10, on Nov. 4.

FRESNO ST. 34, IDAHO 0

FRESNO, Calif. — Dwayne Wright rushed for 133 yards and Tom Brandstater threw two touchdown passes as the Bulldogs (3-7, 3-3 WAC) beat the Vandals (4-7, 3-4), Fresno State's first shutout since 2004.

Fresno State gained 290 of its 399 total yards on the ground. The Bulldogs did not allow Idaho inside the red zone.

Hawai'i beat Fresno State, 68-37, on Oct. 14, and topped Idaho, 68-10, on Oct. 28.

NEVADA 42, LOUISIANA TECH 0

RUSTON, La. — Luke Lippincott ran for 122 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Wolf Pack (8-3, 5-2 WAC) shut out the Bulldogs (3-8, 1-5).

Robert Hubbard added two scores on the ground for Nevada and had 53 yards rushing.

Hawai'i beat Nevada, 41, 34, on Oct. 7, and dumped Louisiana Tech, 61-17, on Nov. 11.
