Bank of Hawaii has announced three new senior vice presidents:

  • MALCOLM LAU, former vice president and market manager of the Business Banking Division's East-West O'ahu market, has been promoted to senior vice president and market manager for the division. He will oversee Central Market Business Banking Centers in downtown, Waiakamilo, Waikiki/Ward and Ala Moana branches. His previous positions have included banking officer, district business sales manager, retail banking center manager and branch sales manager.

  • KEVIN T. SAKAMOTO was promoted to senior vice president and regional manager of the Hawai'i Branch Division's, Metro West O'ahu Region, overseeing sales and service of 18 branches in the region. Previously, he was vice president and central market manager, Business Banking Division, managing business banking relationships in several major O'ahu markets, including downtown, Ala Moana and Waikiki. He has also served as division sales manager, business banking manager and assistant branch manager.

  • NANCY SEAWAHL, a 16-year veteran of Bank of Hawaii until 2002, returns to the bank as senior vice president and risk manager, Corporate Risk Group. She will also oversee reserve analysis, commercial credit analytics, credit systems and process departments.

    Hirings at several local law firms have been announced:

  • Bays Deaver Lung Rose Baba has hired two new associates, Sunny S. Lee and Adrian L. Lavarias. Lee is a past state Circuit Court law clerk and associate attorney in Seattle. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and Asian Bar Association of Washington. Lavarias, a 2005 intern with the firm, is a recent summa cum laude graduate of the University of Hawai'i, William S. Richardson School of Law.

  • The Honolulu law firm of Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel LLP has added to four its staff: Damon Schmidt, a magna cum laude graduate of the UH law school who practices in the fields of public utilities/telecommunications and environmental law, has been hired as an associate. RONALD H.W. LUM JR. rejoins Goodsill after a 19-month federal clerkship with U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry M. Kurren. Lum is also a graduate of the UH law school, where where he was co-editor-in-chief of the school's Law Review. He concentrates his practice in real estate development and finance. ROSEMARIE S. SAM, also a UH law school graduate, comes to the firm after clerking for state First Circuit Court Judge Colleen K. Hirai, and focuses her practice on trusts and estates. SETH K. WEAVER joins the firm after a clerkship with First Judicial Circuit Court Judge Steven S. Alm. He focuses his practice on litigation.

  • Hawai'i real estate investment firm, The Shidler Group, has promoted Anna Palla to general manager of the Davies Pacific Center downtown highrise. She previously managed the Pan Am Building and the Pacific Business News Building (the former Federal Aviation Administration building in Waikiki). Since its 1972 founding, The Shidler Group has acquired more than 130 million square feet of commercial property, in Hawai'i, Texas, Arizona and Southern California.

  • ZAK CHADLI — who worked at some of Hawai'i's top resorts before recently opening his own restaurant in San Francisco — returns home as executive chef of Maui's Napili Kai Beach Resort, including its beachfront Sea House Restaurant. The Morocco-born chef is a veteran of international experience, including Paris, San Francisco (sous chef of Hotel Majestic) and Guam (executive sous chef at Onward Beach Resort).

  • DAVID S. De LUZ SR., chairman and chief executive officer of David S. De Luz Sr. Enterprises Inc., parent company of Big Island Toyota, has announced a new slate of corporate officers — his four children, thereby bringing into the kama'aina business' corporate line-up a second generation of the family. The company, and its affiliates, has diverse interests not only in the automotive industry, but real estate and cattle ranching. David S. De Luz Jr., 48, is vice president for special projects, and is responsible for the dealership's finance and insurance projects and facilities planning. The 25-year veteran of the automotive industry has worked in all phases of the company's operations and opened both the Hilo and Kona branches of Mazda Subaru dealership. The new appointments: Jan Keiko De Luz Whiteside, 47, is vice president for administration and chief financial officer. She is the owner and general manager of Maverick Automotive Marketing Inc., a Florida-based company that specializes in automotive marketing which she founded in 1998. Wayne Koji De Luz, 45, a 22-year automotive industry veteran, is vice president of operations and chief operating officer. He is also the president and owner of Hilo/Kona Mazda Subaru, which he bought in 2005. He started in the family operation in 1984 as a fixed operations manager. He is president of the Hawaii Auto Dealers Association (HADA). Jacqueline Emiko De Luz, 41, is vice president for human relations and risk management, a field she's specialized in since 1983. During her 15 years in the company, Jackie has held various administrative positions including director of human resources.
