On Nov. 20, 1893, The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported on a Kilauea eruption.

1961: A jet fighter from Kane'ohe Marine Corps Air Station crashes in a Kailua residential area, killing two people — the pilot and an 8-year-old boy — and destroying two homes. The jet was on a night training mission.

1962: The City Council passes a dog leash law aimed at keeping stray dogs off the streets of Honolulu.

1968: Two Marine recruiters are asked to leave the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus because of concerns they would touch off a student protest.
