Kawamoto finds Hawaiian family to rent Kahala home

By Andrew Gomes
Advertiser Staff Writer

Japanese real estate investor Genshiro Kawamoto is moving forward with plans to rent several of his million-dollar homes on tony Kahala Avenue for $150 to $200 a month.

Kawamoto said today in an interview that he has identified four homes that he expects to have ready for tenants by January or February.

Kawamoto said he has selected the tenants for his first home but declined to identify them except to say they are a hard-working Native Hawaiian family of six who he said doesn't have enough living space.

Kawamoto plans to rent nine of his 22 properties on Kahala Avenue to needy families for $150 to $200 a month.

People interested in renting Kawamoto's Kahala homes can write to him at P.O. Box 15547, Honolulu, HI 96830.

A more detailed account of Kawamoto's plan and reaction to it will be available in Wednesday's Advertiser.
