Hilo loses opener in OT, 98-93

Corey Allen scored 24 points as Lewis & Clark College (Portland, Ore.) rallied from a 25-point halftime deficit to beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 98-93, last night at the Hilo civic.

Mark Robinowitz scored eight of his 16 points in overtime, including a 3-pointer that put the Pioneers (2-0) ahead to stay at 90-87.

Michael Martin scored 23 points and Vince Alvarado added 22, including a basket that gave Hilo a brief 87-85 lead in the extra period, to lead the Vulcans (0-1).

Hilo hit 18 of 29 shots in the first half, including 10 of 15 3-pointers, to take a 51-26 lead.

"I think we fell in love with our jump shot," Hilo head coach Jeff Law said. "We played great in the first half but our offense was bad in the second half."

BYUH WINS, LOSES

All 14 Brigham Young-Hawai'i players scored as the Seasiders cruised to a 97-56 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) last night at Cannon Activities Center.

Eric Boyce scored 15 points and Lucas Alves 12 for BYUH (4-0).

Troy Cox scored 17 points for the Mighty Oaks (0-2).

Earlier, Karissa Walter had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as Oakland City defeated BYUH, 87-79, in a women's game.

Liz Geltmaker had 15 points for the Mighty Oaks (2-1).

Kayla Burningham led the Seasiders (0-2) with 26 points and six assists. Latoya Wily contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.

HPU DROPS TWO

Reserve Tyler Monk scored 14 points as Central Washington routed Hawai'i Pacific, 93-57, yesterday at Cannon Activities Center.

Derek Groth added 13 points, Erik Bell and Bryce Daub each had 11 for the Wildcats (1-2).

Reserves Adam Snyder (12 points) and Logan Wolf (11) led the Sea Warriors (1-1).

Elsewhere, Shayna Stanley scored 20 points as host Cal State Los Angeles beat HPU, 80-69, in a women's game.

Rosalyn Omoruyi added 19 points for the Golden Eagles.

Ashley Jenkins had 24 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists for the Sea Warriors (0-4). Shannon Miyashiro had 12 points and six rebounds.
