Oklahoma stops Chaminade in Maui Invitational

Associated Press

LAHAINA, Maui — Longar Longar had 24 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead Oklahoma to a 72-57 victory over Chaminade on Wednesday in the seventh-place game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The 6-foot-11 junior, a native of Sudan, averaged 2.5 points over his first two seasons with the Sooners (3-2) with a career high of 27 his freshman year against Florida A&M. He averaged 11.8 points over the first four games this season. The 14 rebounds doubled his previous career best.

Stewart Kussler had 23 points for the Silverswords (0-3), the Division II hosts of the eight-team tournament. The loss dropped them to 4-63 all-time in the event with their last victory coming over Villanova in 2003.

Chaminade was within 61-55 with 4:48 left on basket by Kussler, but that was the Silverswords' last field goal of the game.

Austin Johnson, who scored all 13 of his points in the second half, then hit his second straight 3-pointer for Oklahoma, and Chaminade was never closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Taylor Griffin had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma, which finished with a 45-27 advantage on the boards, including 16-7 on the offensive end. Longar had nine offensive rebounds.

Zack Whiting of Chaminade had four points and nine assists, the first time in this tournament he did not have a double-double.

Oklahoma lost to No. 12 Memphis and Purdue in its first two games, while Chaminade was beaten by No. 5 UCLA and DePaul.

This was Oklahoma's third appearance in the tournament. The Sooners finished second in 1988 and fifth in 1992.
