Holiday getaway for Californians

A quick trip to Hawai'i is one of Southern California travelers' top Thanksgiving holiday weekend getaways, according to a survey by the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The Aloha State ranks as the No. 5 spot for a holiday trip this weekend, trailing quick vacations to Las Vegas, Mexico, San Diego and the Grand Canyon, said the survey conducted for the American Automobile Association by the Travel Industry Association. Overall, 4.75 million Californians are expected to take Thanksgiving trips.


JACK IN BOX SALE BUMPS UP PROFIT

The sale of 25 locations in Hawai'i helped Jack in the Box Inc. report that net income rose to $33.2 million during the three months ended Oct. 1 as compared with the profit of $21.5 million a year earlier.

The San Diego-based company said it had a gain of $15.6 million on the sale of the Hawai'i restaurants it sold to local fast-food executive Chris Scanlan in September. Scanlan, chief executive of Scanlan Management, has also signed a development agreement to add an undisclosed number of Jack in the Box restaurants in the Islands.


CIRCUIT CITY TO OFFER CLEARWIRE

Clearwire Corp., a mobile wireless Internet service available on O'ahu and Maui, said its service will be sold through Circuit City stores.

Clearwire already sells its Hawai'i service at several shopping center and mall kiosks as well as its store at 1221 Kapi'olani Blvd. Clearwire is based in Kirkland, Wash., and currently provides service in 33 metropolitan markets.


PHOENIX HEALTH ADDS O'AHU SITE

Phoenix Health Systems, a national information technology and business process services provider, is opening a service center in Honolulu to support its Pacific-region clients.

Phoenix, which provides consulting, information technology outsourcing and revenue cycle management, also said it had entered a partnership with Ronald Haranda & Associates Inc., a Hawai'i-based healthcare consulting firm.
