Conference for elders' caregivers

KAHULUI, Maui — The Maui County Office on Aging will hold its fifth annual Caregivers Conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Maui Beach Hotel.

The event will provide information on the newest caregiving options, with the keynote address by Clarence Liu, clinical chaplain for Pacific Health Ministry and director of Hospice's Patient and Family Services on O'ahu. His talk is titled "A Call to Care: Finding Strength and Inspiration Within."

Sessions from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. will focus on the risk factors and prevention of falls; caregiving for early dementia patients; parenting grandchildren; and legal changes affecting end-of-life issues.

The conference fee is $20. Maui Adult Day Care Centers is offering care to a limited number of older family members so that their caregivers may attend the workshop. Call (808) 871-5804.
