Gonzaga women's basketball players Rachel Kane and Tatriana Lorenzo — two of the top guards out of Hawai'i in recent history — return home this week to play in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic.

Kane, a 2003 Punahou graduate, and Lorenzo, a 2006 Kamehameha alum, are former Advertiser All-State point guards. Kane was the State Player of the Year as a senior.

"I'm excited," Kane said. "It's been a while."

Joining Hawai'i and Gonzaga in the tournament that runs from Friday through Sunday are North Carolina, Sacramento State, UCLA, Arkansas, Denver and Texas Tech.

Prior to last night's game against Portland State, Lorenzo and Kane had played in all four games, with Lorenzo earning two starts.

Lorenzo averages 16.8 minutes, 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. Kane, who twice had surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and redshirted last year, averages 12.5 minutes, 2.0 points and 1.8 rebounds. Her 10 assists is tied for the team best.

"I'm back to normal, and playing," Kane said. "I'm playing at 100 percent, taking advantage of every opportunity I get to go in there. So far so good."
