Rainbow Wahine capture WAC volleyball tourney title

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated New Mexico State, 30-27, 30-20, 29-31, 30-22, Friday to win the Western Athletic Conference tournament championship match at Reno, Nev.

The No. 12 Rainbow Wahine (27-5) will find out Sunday where they will open the NCAA Tournament.

Sarah Mason had 18 kills and Jamie Houston 16 for UH.

Houston was named the tournament's most valuable player. Hawai'i's Kanoe Kamana'o, Mason and Kari Gregory also were named to the all-tournament team. Others on the team were Jackie Choi, New Mexico State; Amber Simpson, New Mexico State; Niki Clement, San Jose State and Kim Oguh, New Mexico State.
