Lots of sun, a little rain expected today

A high altitude weather system will keep the atmosphere over most of the state unstable today and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect some locally heavy showers, primarily in interior and mountain sections of the islands and mostly in the afternoon, forecasters said.

A fairly dry air mass will limit the number of showers and many areas will likely remain rain-free.

Forecasters expect the trade winds to blow back into town early next week and to become quite strong by Wednesday.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today, sunny in the morning, then partly cloudy with isolated showers in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs around 82. East winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Saturday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers early in the evening, with locally heavy rainfall possible. Mostly clear in the late evening and overnight. Lows 67 to 72. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Sunday, mostly sunny in the morning, then partly cloudy with scattered showers in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs around 82. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Sunday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the evening. Lows 67 to 72. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Monday, partly cloudy. Isolated showers in the morning, then scattered showers in the afternoon. Highs around 82. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Monday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows around 68. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
