The improvement of Ohua and Wylllie streets was approved by the Board of Supervisors, The Advertiser reported on Nov. 25, 1925.

1890: King Kalakaua boards the Charleston for his trip to San Francisco. The Charleston band played "Hawai'i Pono'i" and "The Girl I Left Behind." The HMS Nymphe drum and fife band played "Auld Lang Syne."

1900: Japanese Buddhists take part in a deification ceremony at the Buddhist temple on Fort Lane.

1909: The Kauikealani Children's Hospital opens on Kuakini Street.

1917: The Army and Navy YMCA on Hotel Street formally opens.

1930: The Masonic order lays the cornerstone for the Shriners hospital on Punahou Street.

1947: Honolulu public school teachers John and Aiko Reinecke are suspended without pay on charges of engaging in Communist activities.

1963: President John F. Kennedy is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery following a majestic state funeral. The University of Hawai'i Board of Regents votes to rename the new East-West Theatre to the John Fitzgerald KennedyTheatre.
