The HPD motorcycle officer who was injured during President Bush's visit Tuesday died this afternoon, police confirmed.

Steve Favela, 30, had been in critical condition at The Queen's Medical Center after his motorcycle crashed while he was riding in the escort for Bush during the president's brief visit to Hawai'i.

Favela and two other officers crashed near a bend along O'Malley Boulevard as the motorcade left Hickam Air Force Base about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday. The other two officers were taken to Queen's for treatment and released.

Favela, who has been with the Honolulu Police Department for eight years and served with the motorcycle unit for two, sustained internal injuries from the crash.
