1910: Mid-Pacific Institute opens in its new buildings in Manoa Valley.
1929: The board of supervisors accepts the new city hall from contractors Walker & Olund.
1955: The first tunnel of the Nu'uanu Pali Highway is blasted open. A 100-pound charge of dynamite tore out nine feet of solid rock to open a four-foot hole in the 500-foot tunnel.
1955: An 11-year-old boy's right leg is amputated after a huge boulder rolls down a steep 'Aina Haina hillside and crushes him against a stone wall.
1970: Fifteen people are rescued by firefighters in Kane'ohe and Waimanalo as floodwaters threaten to engulf their homes. No one was injured, but considerable damage was reported.
