Seasiders shoot down Fort Lewis College

Lucas Alves scored 20 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Fort Lewis College (Durango, Colo.), 72-66, yesterday in the Hilo Shootout at the Hilo civic.

Wu Tai-hao added 15 points and Eric Boyce 10 for the Seasiders (5-0).

Tim Bieri scored 21 points for the Skyhawks (3-1).

The Seasiders never trailed although the Skyhawks twice closed to a point — the last at 67-66 with 1:05 to play.

But BYUH hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to clinch the game.

In the late game, Rashad Bilal had 19 points and 12 rebounds as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Western New Mexico, 78-62.

Sam Wilhoite added 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Darryl Harris contributed 17 points, Vince Alvarado had 12 points and Justin Dobson 10 rebounds for the Vulcans (2-2).

Kris Taylor had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (3-2).

HPU MEN WIN IN OT

Kamron Alborz scored 18 points as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Carleton College (Northfield, Minn.), 79-76, in overtime last night at Blaisdell Arena.

Alborz hit a 3-pointer and two free throws late in the second half as the Sea Warriors (2-1) rallied to send the game into overtime tied at 69.

Brandon Lee's jumper with 25 seconds left in overtime put HPU ahead to stay at 77-75.

Tommy Drake led the Knights (0-2) with 22 points.

HILO WOMEN LOSE

Lauren Redfern scored 19 points as Fort Lewis College (Durango, Colo.) defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 87-62, yesterday in the Hampton Inn & Suites Tournament at Nampa, Idaho.

The Skyhawks are 2-2.

Ashley Kualii scored 23 points and Sheila Azevedo, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Vulcans (0-2).
