H-1 overpass work to close 'ewa lanes starting tonight

Advertiser Staff

The two left lanes of the H-1 Freeway in the 'ewa-bound direction near 'Aiea will be closed tonight and tomorrow night from 9 p.m. to 3:15 a.m. so crews can begin replacing a pedestrian overpass that was damaged by an Army flatbed truck in September.

The two right lanes of the H-1 will be closed in the 'ewa-bound direction on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 3:15 a.m.

The state Department of Transportation urges drivers to allow extra time to reach their destinations.

On Sunday, the 'ewa-bound lanes of the freeway will be closed from the Halawa Interchange to the Waiau Interchange from 1:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. so contractor Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. can install a pre-cast section to connect the walkway.

While DOT officials are expecting the work to go smoothly, motorists are being advised to add extra time to their commute if they plan to travel through the area during affected times.
