There was a shortage of sugar in Honolulu stores, the Nov. 27, 1919, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported. Retail sales were being limited to a maximum of 10 pounds.

1919: The new Mormon temple in Lä'ie is dedicated.

1950:
Two Navy officers and three enlisted men are killed when their patrol plane loses a wing and crashes at sea two miles off O'ahu.

1953: The Honolulu Community theater board of directors has decided to cut short the run of the theater's current production, "The Twin Lovers," because of criticism of the play, The Advertiser reports. An official of the Catholic Church had requested the play be discontinued and the board also cited letters to the editor about the play.

1995:
Bob Wagner is fired as University of Hawai'i football coach.

2003: Chris Hemmeter, the developer and dreamer whose name was synonymous with super-sized projects in the 1970s and 1980s and who became one of the most influential people ever to do business in Hawai'i, dies at the age of 64.
