Possible ammonia leak causes Mapunapuna evacuation

Advertiser Staff

Concerns about a possible ammonia leak have prompted Honolulu fire officials to evacuate the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Hawaii building in Mapunapuna.

"We don't think it's anything, but we evacuated as a precaution," said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada. "It may be a minor leak, or it may just be normal venting."

There were no reports of injuries or anyone suffering ill effects, Tejada said.

The incident was reported at 3:35 p.m. and affected the area bordered by Mapunapuna, Pukoloa and Ahua streets.
