Kamehameha's Gaison to receive national award

Kamehameha Schools athletic director Blane Gaison is one of eight who will receive a special citation award from the National Federation of State High School Associations on Dec. 12 in Anaheim, Calif.Gaison has been Kamehameha athletic director since 1996, and also served as president of the board of directors of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu from 1999 to 2005.
The federation's citations are given annually "to outstanding athletic directors in recognition of contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels," according to a Kamehameha Schools press release.
Gaison served on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association board of directors from 2002 to 2005.
Gaison was a standout on the Kamehameha and University of Hawai'i football teams in the 1970s, and also played for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.
