Big Island police have busy Thanksgiving week

Police on the Big Island had a busy Thanksgiving Day week, arresting 27 motorists for drunk driving from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27.Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and two were under the age of 21, police said in a news release.
So far this year, there have been 1,115 DUI arrests on the Big Island compared with 902 during the same period last year, an increase of 24 percent.
There have been 2,228 major accidents on the Big Island so far this year compared with 2,185 during the same period last year, an increase of 2 percent, police said.
There has also been 32 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far, compared with 32 for the same period last year.
